Devlog 5


Hello everyone! This is devlog number 5 on the development of Mergevania. We have added all technical mechanics for the game, only having left aesthetics improvements (such as the HUD) and finishing level design.

What this does for the game 

Having finally added all the mechanics for our game leaves us a clear path into the shorter and final stage of development which is to enhance the experience of the player with a better aesthetic design and finishing all levels to complete the game. After much thorough playtesting we were able to code and add all the abilities in a way that improves the core game loop and feels great in the hands of the player.

We are already starting to add and tweak the assets to improve the aesthetic design and feel of the game, as well as,  designing new levels that will act as connected rooms to honor the "metroidvania" genre inspiration that we drew upon. We are looking forward to completing this game and playing it in its final form.

Roadmap of our next steps:

  • Design and build focused rooms that require specific synergies to progress and offer alternative routes for creative combos.
  • Improve the HUD.
  • Add/tweak remaining sprites (boxes, platforms).

  • Add audio design, i.e.: music, action sounds (jump, taking damage, dash, etc.).

  • Fix the Parallax background.

  • Run iterative playtests  to tweak and enhance all existing mechanics and assets to make changes if necessary.
